Medication management isn’t just someone renewing your prescriptions. It’s an ongoing process that starts with a full evaluation, moves into careful prescribing when medication makes sense, and continues with regular monitoring and adjustment. That’s the model this practice follows.
It means working with a clinician who:
At Psych Dimensions, this sits inside a broader philosophy: medication is one tool among several, not the only one. The team looks at the full range of options, pharmaceutical and otherwise. For some patients medication is the right primary approach. For others it’s therapy, lifestyle changes, a combination, or something else. The evaluation is what determines that.
The team treats a thorough evaluation before prescribing as non negotiable, because it’s what makes the treatment plan that follows clinically sound. Prescribing without an evaluation is a guess. Prescribing after one is informed medicine.
That means your first appointment isn’t a prescription visit, it’s a holistic psychiatry evaluation. What comes out of it determines whether medication gets recommended, and if so, which one and at what dose. No one is pushed toward a particular treatment ahead of time. The plan follows the person.
The provider reviews current symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, prior medications, family history, and life context. Usually 60 to 90 minutes.
Based on that evaluation, the provider recommends a course of action and explains the reasoning, whether medication is or isn’t part of it.
Medication starts at an appropriate dose, with an explanation of what it does, what to expect, and what to flag between visits.
Follow up visits track how the medication is working, reviewing symptoms, side effects, and functional changes. Dose adjustments follow clinical response.
Medication management isn’t a single event. It continues as long as you’re on medication, including periodic reassessment of whether it’s still needed.
The San Antonio office offers pharmacogenetics and DNA testing, which uses genetic data to show how your body processes specific medications. This is especially useful when a patient has had inconsistent or unexpected reactions to medications before.
It’s particularly helpful in depression treatment, where finding the right antidepressant can otherwise mean a long trial and error process. The test doesn’t replace clinical judgment, but it adds precision to medication choices. Ask about it when you call to schedule.
Not everyone who comes in for medication management stays on medication alone. For many conditions, especially anxiety and depression, combining medication with therapy tends to outperform either one by itself.
Psychotherapy is available at this same San Antonio practice, so patients who need both aren’t stuck finding a separate therapist and managing two disconnected providers. The clinical team communicates internally, keeping your therapist and your prescriber aligned.
New patients are welcome at the San Antonio office, open Monday through Thursday until 7pm, with most seen within a few days of calling. Call (210) 858-5553 to schedule the evaluation that starts the process.

An ongoing clinical process: evaluation before prescribing, careful selection and dosing, monitoring for response and side effects, and adjustment over time. At this office, it starts with a full evaluation, and nothing is prescribed before that’s complete.
Usually not. The first visit is an evaluation. If medication fits, it’s discussed and may be prescribed at a follow up once the provider has the full clinical picture.
No. Medication is one option among several. The team also considers therapy and other non medication approaches for every treatment plan. Whether medication is recommended depends entirely on the evaluation.
It varies. Early follow ups usually happen two to four weeks after starting a new medication, to check response and tolerability. Once things stabilize, visits may move to monthly or quarterly.
