Anxiety is one of the most common reasons adults seek psychiatric care, yet many people live with it for years before recognizing it for what it is. That is because anxiety rarely announces itself clearly. For many people it feels less like a mental health condition and more like a permanent feature of their personality.
Some of the ways anxiety shows up for patients who come to Psych Dimensions in San Antonio:
These experiences are not personality flaws. They are clinical symptoms, and they respond to treatment. A psychiatric evaluation is the right way to determine what is driving them and what to do about it.
GAD involves persistent, excessive worry across multiple areas of life occurring on most days. People with GAD often describe feeling like their mind will not slow down, even when they recognize the worry is disproportionate to the actual situation.
Panic disorder involves recurring, sudden episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and dizziness. Many patients develop significant anticipatory anxiety between episodes, dreading when the next one will occur.
Social anxiety involves marked fear of situations where a person may be observed, judged, or embarrassed. It goes well beyond shyness and causes real functional impairment in work, relationships, and daily life.
Health anxiety is characterized by persistent concern about having or developing a serious illness, often continuing despite normal test results or medical reassurance. It frequently results in repeated medical visits without lasting relief.
Some anxiety develops in direct response to a significant life stressor such as a career change, divorce, medical diagnosis, or relocation. While often time limited, it can become disabling and warrants clinical attention when it interferes with daily functioning.
Every new patient at Psych Dimensions starts with a thorough psychiatric evaluation. We review your symptoms, how long they have been present, what makes them better or worse, and how they are affecting your ability to function at work, at home, and in your relationships. We also look at whether other conditions such as depression or ADHD are part of the picture, since anxiety frequently presents alongside other diagnoses.
Based on what the evaluation shows, we develop a treatment plan specific to you. That might mean medication, therapy, lifestyle considerations, or a combination of several things. What it will not mean is a generic recommendation applied before we have a clear picture of what you are dealing with.
Anxiety treatment requires follow-up. We monitor how your plan is working, make adjustments when needed, and continue to support you as your situation evolves over time.
When medication is the right fit, we manage it carefully. That means selecting the appropriate medication class for your specific presentation, starting at a sensible dose, explaining what to expect, and monitoring your response at follow-up appointments. If the first medication does not produce the results it should, we adjust the plan. If medication is no longer necessary at some point, we discuss that too.
Medication is not the automatic starting point for every patient. For mild to moderate anxiety presentations, therapy alone often produces strong outcomes. For more severe or treatment-resistant anxiety, medication is frequently an important part of the plan.
Psych Dimensions offers both psychiatric care and psychotherapy at the same practice. Therapists at this location use evidence based approaches with strong clinical support for anxiety.
CBT is the most well-researched therapy for anxiety disorders. It works by helping patients identify the thought patterns and behavioral responses that maintain anxiety and building practical skills to interrupt and change them.
DBT incorporates mindfulness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance skills. It is particularly useful for anxiety accompanied by significant emotional reactivity or patterns of avoidance.
A forward looking, goal oriented approach that emphasizes building on strengths and creating specific, achievable changes. Well suited for patients who want practical progress without extensive exploration of the past.
Having psychiatry and therapy available in the same practice means your prescriber and therapist are in communication. You do not have to manage two separate providers or hope that information is being shared between them.

Everyone one is so nice and make you feel comfortable. Service is fast. I have never had to sit in the waiting room very long and I have been going to them for years. All of the providers include you in the treatment plan and really listen to you.
We treat generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, health anxiety, and situational or adjustment related anxiety, among others. All treatment begins with a full evaluation to determine the specific presentation and most appropriate approach.
No. Whether medication is part of the plan depends on the severity of your anxiety, your history, and your preferences. For some patients therapy alone is the right starting point. For others, particularly with moderate to severe anxiety, medication plays an important role.
Yes. Individual psychotherapy using CBT, DBT, and Solution Focused therapy is available at the San Antonio office alongside psychiatric services.
Call (210) 858-5553 to schedule an initial evaluation. That evaluation is the starting point for all anxiety treatment at Psych Dimensions.
Yes, commonly. Anxiety and depression frequently co-occur, and ADHD often presents with anxiety symptoms. We evaluate for co-occurring conditions during the initial assessment and build a plan that addresses the full clinical picture.
A primary care provider can prescribe for anxiety but typically does not have the depth of training in psychiatric medication management that a specialized practice does. Psych Dimensions also offers therapy in the same location, which is particularly useful for complex presentations or when both medication and therapy are part of the plan.
